About
Emeralds

People have admired the fascinating Emerald's green for thousands
of years. There are other green gems, like tourmaline and peridot,
but Emerald is the one that's always associated with lushest
landscapes and the richest greens.
Today, Emerald is the world's premier green stone. In fact,
in the US, imports of Emerald’s have a higher dollar
value than imports of any other colored stone. Emerald’s
have been held in high esteem since ancient times. For that reason,
some of the most famous Emerald’s are to be seen in
museums and collections. The New York Museum of Natural History, for
example, has an exhibit in which a cup made of pure Emerald
which belonged to the Emperor Jehangir is shown next to the 'Patricia',
one of the largest Colombian Emerald crystals, which weighs
632 carats.
The Vedas, the holy scriptures of the Indians written many centuries
ago, say that the Emerald’s promise good luck and enhances
the well-being.
Emerald
is the modern & Hindu birthstone for the month of May.
